It is all the same battery. You won't benefit noticeably from a larger battery unless you plug it in.

So I have a colleague that just pulled the trigger on a Niro PHEV after being inspired by my Touring. Of course not the same beasts but I'll have some real world feedback on the tech as he uses it. For me I'd like to see the plugin range doubled at least. By doing that a user could factor out the extra battery weight gain and extend the PHEV only option and see some serious MPG.

Just received last months electric bill from APS the provider here in Arizona. 86 kWh OFF PEAK @ $16.42 ( 19% of bill ) i charge "Off Peak ( 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. next day.) This was a 28 day billing cycle i charger 13 times @ 110 volts. $16.42 divided by 13 charge nights = $1.26 per charge. When I add the cost of fuel 8 gal X $3.00 I get ( $24.00 fuel+ 16.42 elec )

TOTAL COST $40.42 divided by 588 miles driven = 68.72 miles per energy cost.

Electric rates in Arizona On Peak @ .25 Of Peak @ .11. My total Electric bill was $86.41.
I use 98% LED lights & Energy Star app.
Ya gotta love the Kia Niro PHEV.

What I find strange is that when I fill up the tank, drive the vehicle for a while, when I turn it off, the MPG that was displayed while driving is different from the overall Mpg displayed the first time I turn off the ignition.

I've also found that the running average MPG is about 5 MPG lower than calculated using the miles drive from the last fill-up and the actual gallons filled.

I have 11,500 miles on it.

That is odd, and I've seen that too. I think there are a couple of lines of bad programming integrating the roughly three calculators it keeps: current trip average, total current tank average, and the new tank average when you refill. Also impacted by the reset options you choose. Odd, but really doesn't matter much. As you know, the estimate is often off. For me, most often it is about 3 mpg off. But I've had several tanks less than 1 mpg, and one that was 6 mpg.

From what I gather, the number that you get when you turn off the igintion after driving, the car shows you the distance of the last trip, the amount of time that you took and the calculated MPG (L/100km) for that trip. It can be a number higher or lower than the ongoing average that is shown when you turn on your engine and is displayed on the the Hybrid screen on the entertainment display.

I have tried to search though the manual for where it explains this screen but have not found it yet.

Filled my wifes car for the first time. For her first 749km she averages 4.6L/100km -or- 51mpg converted. She was getting around the 13L/100km on her old 2006 Kia Sportage, so the savings in fuel are huge. I still have another 300km to get through before I will refill my tank. Right now I am hovering around the 4.8L/100km, but I haven't had any really good highway driving where the car seems to be very economical, contrary to what is posted.

Straight highway trips are usually lower mpg for me. Best case seems to be medium trips, especially round trips, from 20 to 50 miles for me with significant city miles each end.
