thank you. I keep hearing the Niros ev mode is not a true ev mode, but it seems everybody mostly refers to how the ac heater triggers ICE.
What about say, driving down highway at 60, maybe 70mph, and having the cold ac at full blast? Would that trigger ICE? I heard on a different forum ac had a temperature threshold before ICE kicked in

I've driven 75mph with AC 50% and no ice. But note I have a PHEV with a bigger battery.

PHEV motor 60HP or 43kw, AC ~0.5 kw. AC is small potatoes compared with motor under full load.

PHEV goes 3mi per KWhr. At 60 mph thats 60mph/3 mi /kwhr = 20 KW

So driving at 60 mph consumes 20 KW, much larger than AC load even at max.

AC runs off of the traction battery. ICE will only come on when the traction battery is depleted. Basically the AC is operating as a serial hybrid rather than a parallel mode that actual driving will trigger.

So basically no, ICE will not trigger 90% of the time when driving EV. Correct?

Would depend on how you are driving. Lead foot, no.
