Towing capability and wiring

Hello all-

From what I've seen and read, the 2017 Niro its capable of light towing. I've seen tow bars for purchase that are said to work on Niros. Has anyone installed one yet? My other question is with the wiring. On our old Acura MDX, there are a snap connector near the back end of the vehicle. The process was to disconnect the two sides and snap the trailer harness in between. Does anyone know if the Niro has anything similar?

Thanks!

The Niro does not have a connector for T connecting. I used the expensive Tekonsha Modulite ZCI to get lighting. It is no cut and uses EM detection to sense the lights. It is somewhat of a pain to install since it requires a separate power line ran. There are KIA T connectors (for Sorrento and Sedona), I would imagine that KIA uses the same connector on all the cars.

I believe the issue though is that the wiring is simply not designed to support the traditional incandescent trailer lights. Every other car/truck I have installed a hitch on had 16 awg wiring, which can easily handle the additional trailer light power. But the wires on the Niro are 18 or maybe even 20 awg, designed for LED, very low current lights.

Look here for the parts I used:
