Hi,
I have been using K&N filters for quite some time. I tend to use their oil filters, engine air, and cabin air.
I noticed that in the “filter books” at WM and auto stores that no cabin air filter model is listed for any year of any Niro here in the US.
Has anyone found a part # that is an equivalent? I’d think it should be the same filter as SOMETHING in the Hyundai/Kia line.
There are great reasons why no car manufacturer has ever specified K&N type engine air filters. I do remember some motorcycles coming with them a very long time ago, and they are better than the no filters at all some motorcycles came with (or were customized to). They do have potential performance benefits over better (and more restrictive) air filters, but that is what motorcycles were all about, and no one back then expected the engine to last long before rebuilding.
But for cabin air, well, do your thing. Wouldn't be hard to make your own K&N type filter. I suppose you could do the same for your home furnace.
On a somewhat related note - does anyone have any understanding of the "Clean Air" function? I see this stenciled on my dashboard, above the climate controls. I'm not sure if it's supposed to light up or not, but I've never seen it illuminate, although it sort of looks like maybe it could.
Attached is what the Niro Owner's manual has to say about it, not especially insightful.
As for iamteeg's question, I haven't shopped for this, but here's a link for the OEM part (for certain models/years, you might want to double check that there isn't a better match for your equipment on this same site) and maybe some of the codes that are listed here will help you to search for alternatives if you don't want OEM: https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/gen...vLy0AAAAANDnqrg$&vid=5521&cid=6&uid=130741&q=

If it's not just marketing puffery, which is my first choice, I would guess that the cabin fan runs at very low speed to bring fresh air into the cabin all the time.
It is stenciled on, no light. And yes, it is marketing puffery, touting their genius for thinking filtered air is healthy (ignoring a few hundred thousand years of human evolution). And they may be right in industrial Korea or say China/India or anywhere that has significantly polluted air. It is "on" anytime air is flowing through the car from outside. It is only "off" if the recirc button is on (and that button will time out, won't stay "sticky").
The other strange "easily-user-replaceable" part that I can't find a spec for in-stores is the rear windshield wiper size. With the Soul, it was listed as a specific one (it had a letter appended to the model # based on size... like a G or an H or something, probably related to the mount?)... but in those RainX/BOSCH books at various auto parts stores don't list ANY rear wiper size/model for ANY year of Niro...
I don't know! I'll try when I need a new wiper... Walmart returns EVERYTHING with little questions asked. But yeah, it doesn't actually list a size at all in the books. I hadn't measured it w/ a tape measure yet... I guess it's 12" based on what you said!
Until it's worth someone's time to make it I think the only replacement for the rear wiper is OEM. Not sure totally about that but that's what I suspect. I think the whole arm needs replacing, I hope I'm wrong.
