Tip To Possibly Save You Some Repair Expense in Winter

We have a Niro SX Touring fully loaded with all the tech. A couple features it has are "Self Folding" outside mirrors when the vehicle is shut off and locked, and "Tilt Down Side Mirrors When the Vehicle is put into Reverse". These are nice features to have BUT could present a problem in the winter when those mirrors can become ice covered and trying to either fold them, or have them tilt down could break something in the mechanism.
Fortunately BOTH features can be disabled and I have done that for the winter. There are TWO switches on the driver's door, right at the front of the armrest. They are both 3 position switches. The one closest to the front of the vehicle is for the folding action. If the right side of that switch is depressed, the mirrors will fold in. The center position is AUTO and the mirrors will thus automatically fold in when the vehicle's door is closed and locked. They also unfold as you approach the vehicle with the keyfob in hand/pocket/purse. Depressing the Left side of that switch causes the mirrors to unfold and that is the position I will leave mine in for the entire winter. The next switch back on the armrest is labelled L and R for Left and Right. Of course one of these position would have to be engaged to make ANY adjustments to your mirror positioning. However, IF that switch is left in either the Left or the Right position, THEN your mirrors will tilt down when you put the vehicle in Reverse. To prevent this (as I do in winter) that switch should be left in the center position, ie that rocker switch will be flat, not tilted either way.
Sorry if this is long winded but there has been MUCH confusion in the forums about these capabilities. I cannot say which models of the Niro have these features for sure other than the SX Touring with Tech Package.

The EX Premium PHEV definitely has both of those features. It's not that cold down here in southern Maryland, but that's good advice.
