WiFi...even worth worrying about?

Can't seem to connect the UVO head unit to my WiFi (the salesman says it's to download map updates, I'm not so sure but I figure it can't hurt). THing is, it's not connecting I've got a standard WPA/WPA2 WiFI network running over 2.4 GHz, and everything else works with it (Chromebooks, laptops, iPhones, etc etc). So I'm not sure what the issue is. I suppose I can allow it over my cable company's WiFI by whitelisting the MAC address, but is it even worth this effort?

I have run into the same thing. It sees the SSID, but when I say connect, even with a full signal, no joy! Any wizards out here???

No special trick here except I did try to make the connection 4-5 times. It now connects as soon as I pull into the garage with my router 35 or so feet in the house. You may have to try that persistent method as well.

I tried 4-5 times, I'm going to give up and just set up a seperate restricted network. Unsecured, but I'll restrict it to just the car's MAC, block it from the rest of my LAN, and limit its WAN bandwidth to 1 mbps down. That should be sufficient.

Interesting idea... let us know how that works. I see the MAC add reported in the Niro. Again I have no idea what this gives us yet. As I mentioned in another post I only see one app that I DL'd...a Yelp app. WHeee!

Ok, the open network doesn't work either, I guess it doesn't like my router or something? Anyway, I did successfully connect to my cable company's WiFi to download the single UVO app, Yelp. Which I haven't used yet. Hopefully they come up with more.

FYI according to my router, the head unit is actually running embedded Android.

My latest UVO update is that I got it to do the vehicle diagnostic report to the UVO app on my iPhone. Of course nothing much to report except the mileage of the vehicle and that I have service due at 7500 miles...far down stream for me. It did seem to want to use my Wifi that connects in my home garage...since it wouldn't as I pulled down the street and asked me if I wanted to start the report. All that is correct since I set the 18th of the month for the report. As I went on my errands it kept asking me, but I just postponed it until I was back in my home base garage, and indeed it worked for what it's worth. So we get a Yelp app and a report which the onboard screens already inform us of. OK ???

Is this only a PHEV thing? Or only certain trims? I haven’t noticed it on mine. What is the WiFi used for anyway?

The EX Premium PHEV actually has a cellular modem and wouldn't need WiFi anyway.

I remember on my old Mazda3 they originally put WiFi in it, you could connect it to an AP....and do nothing. It literally didn't do anything, and never did anything. They eventually disabled it. And on the Niro, other than downloading Yelp, I haven't figured out what it would use WiFi for. It gets traffic updates from SiriusXM, and uses your phone for 911.

I haven't bothered messing with wifi in the car, doesn't seem necessary for me. My Android phone connects via Bluetooth and I have a spare USB-C cable to plug it in to use Android Auto when I need it (haven't used it yet, had the car only two weeks now and haven't done anything but commute to work and go grocery shopping yet).
