Spare tire sub installed

After debating what way to go to add some low end to my ride I decided to just go the easy route after having many cars with high power systems that half of them intruded on the space in the car.
To compliment the JL C1's that I had installed in the stock door and dash locations (components in the front and coax in the back) I went with a Cerwin Vega VPAS12ST. It is a unit that will fit inside a spare tire. It is basically a 12 inch sub with a whole in the middle of it in an aluminum enclosure with a built in amp.

It will not shake cars next to you or anything like that, but it is way better than I would have expected!
I still have to put down the soundproofing I got for the trunk floor but the system sounds way better than it did.

Probably same place before the sub was installed - never purchased! None of the cars sold in NA come with one that I'm aware of.

Correct. I got an inflation kit.
This sub will actually fit inside the rim of a spare tire if I actually had one.

My girlfriend's 2018 Soul has a spare tire from initial purchase/setup... my 2017 soul didn't and my 2019 niro doesn't.

Anyway, I was curious why you went with that particular one. Never heard of that brand.

Considering (in the future... distant future... where I can afford such) the JBL equivalent ("JBL BassPro Hub") … JBL is owned by Harman/Kardon and I have had pretty good success with their speakers, decent balance between quality & price. Did you hear about anything wrong with this model?

I had a 16 soul previously to the niro and it did not have a spare tire either. Nor does my wifes 18 forte or my sisters 19 forte, or my sisters boyfriends 18 soul. They are an option to buy as far as I know. Even my best friends elantra does not have one either.

Cerwin Vega has been around for a long time. I have a set of their home speakers that I bought in 1993 when I was in high school in my basement game room. Those old things still shake the house ( although often it is from my son playing fortnite more so than a party anymore). I have used CV's in the past in cars. I had a set of VMax 12's in a Dodge intrepid and a Stroker 15' in a Jeep Commander.

I am very familiar with JBL as I have several of their headphones and bluetooth speakers and have used their car speakers plenty of times (also used plenty of infinity their sister brand) and those are usually my go to for door speakers, but the shop I had do the install sold JL's and the price was comparable so went with those instead this time. I actually heard the JBL BassPro Hub. It is very similar in sound. The reason I went with the CV over the JBL is $100. That was the cost difference. I figured if I was going to spend any more on the system than I did I would just end up going all out and adding multiple amps and a custom box like I usually do.

Cerwin Vega is certainly an old brand dating back to the middle 1950's. In the 70's and 80's, they were well known for their bottom end in home audio. Good speakers for rock and roll at the time.

Cerwin Vega and "good speaker" do not belong in the same sentence. I would accept "loud" or "booming" or "inexpensive".. but the word good suggests that they reproduce sound with some relevant accuracy, that sadly was never the case. But in this case you are trying to get bass, so they might be perfect for that job.

A spare tire might be an option, but I’m not sure. My Niro LX HEV has a spare tire.
