Hey there from Texas, VW Passat Diesel owner

Hey there from South Central Texas. After some navel contemplation about what to do with my diesel 2013 VW Passat TDI, considering buying a Niro. The resale value on my Passat has tanked since the emissions fur ball started. The Passat has been an excellent ride. Zero repairs or issues for four years. We looked at a Niro at local dealer. I was impressed by the design and quality of the Kia. My TDI diesel has averaged about 40 mpg for the last 90,000 miles. Would be happy if the Niro meets or exceeds this mileage. Still have a year to pull the trigger. By the time I sell my Passat back to VW, the first Niro's should be on the road and the first set of squawk's posted and fixed.

My first impression of the Kia's was wow they look like Audi's and VW's. No surprise after learning who designed the Kia. Also drove an Optima Hybrid. Nice ride and quiet, steering was numb. Not an exciting road, lots of useful features. I suspect there is a Kia in my future.

If you're looking for range, I think the Niro should more than satisfy your needs.

EPA MPG (City/Highway/Combined) is 52/49/50 for the FE trim. Even at the Touring trim, the lowest mileage is 46/40/43 which is still more than the Passat.

Just did buyback on my 2014 golf tdi, got about $4k net after payoff on loan, put that in a Kia Niro, two days in I am averaging 76.4 on my commute 67 miles to LA with best downhill mileage 87.1 and going home 62.5. Best with tdi was 67 downhill, did that twice in two years and 50+ going home about three or four times, so Kia is going to save me a ton of money on gas, glad I did not go with another tdi.

That (76.4 MPG) is amazing as the high miler run from coast to coast was I believe only 75 mpg with "expert" High Mileage Driving techniques. Most folks getting just over 50 MPG.
