2019 Niro PHEV Owner

Just bought a 2019 Niro PHEV yesterday, picking it up tomorrow. I so badly wanted the Niro EV, loved every review I had seen or read for that car. Too bad they didn't include a lot of main important features on their base EX. Guess they only wanted to sell the SX versions.

Anyways, still happy to finally enter the EV market, even if only partially for now. My commute is about 25km one way, and I got chargers at work, so don't plan to use much gas.

So for the new car I know I need to get:
  • Key Fob Cover
  • Hitch for bike rack
  • Tuxmat Floor Mats
  • License Plate protector frame

Anything else do you guys recommend?

Hi Mythisme, and welcome to the Forum.
Congrats on your new 2019 PHEV. Did you get the EX Premium or the SX trim level ? I hope you got your 2500$ Can. federal gov. rebate on it in Ontario.!

That is soo cool for the km in your commute, and yes, you will probably never see a gas station for the next weeks! my average right now is ~ 3.7L/100km since December.
I got mine Pearl White color PHEV in last december, and it was the first one in Quebec.

For the EV EX, yes indeed, as we speak, less than 30 of them are ordered for Canada.! This was a marketing plan to get the Niro EV eligible for the federal gov 5000$ Can. rebate, and get the SX trim level too. Just for us in Quebec, it's a 13.000$ Can. rebate from both Federal and Provincial Gov. Plus.. on the SX, Chargehub (a charger seller) is giving with Kia Canada, a Free "Bosch" 240v charger free (950$ Can. value).
Come back and tell us your comments on the car.!

Thatís great, which dealer did you get it from? I just got the HEV model, after a lot of deliberation, and difficulty getting one. Should have gotten the PHEV .

Congrats on your new car! I have the Tux mats and love them. Don't need a key fob because it stays in my purse. I hadn't heard about the license plate protector frame being suggested. What does it do?

I got the SX trim in black color. I wanted to get the Gravity Blue, but that would mean a 3 months wait. I had a VW Tigaun earlier, though I love the car, the drive and the pano sunroof, it was using just too much gas. Premium gas requirement + higher gas prices meant I was putting in $350/month for gas. I just couldn't justify that any longer.

I looked into Tesla M3 and Niro EV SX, but both of those were just out of my budget allocated by my wife. LOL. And Niro EV EX didn't have many of the features I wanted to get. Kona Preferred had all those features except that it's trunk is too small for my needs. So the next best thing was Niro PHEV. And Lockwood Kia in Oakville had one in stock. So I didn't hesitate as soon as I test drove it I figured it'd meet my demands for the next 7-8 years.

Yes, I got the $2500 rebate and a decent value for my trade-in. And now hoping to not spend much time at gas stations other than when getting a car wash!

BTW, one thing I forgot to check, does it use regular gas or premium gas? I hope it's the regular.

@frameron : Think of it this way, by the time you'll be replacing ur HEV, the EVs would've improved so much that you won't need to have the gas component any more. That's how I see mine for now.

@Beth , the license plate protector just protects ur plate and sticker so they don't get damaged from road debris and/or small bumps. Replacing a damaged license plate is extra hassle I can do without. As for the mats, I think the Tux mats look better, and cheaper, than the Kia All-weather mats.

I'm just a tad worried about not being able to find someone to install a hitch on the car, as it requires a bit of a hack. And I wonder if that will void the warranty!

Be warned...license plate frames rattle and can drive you nuts looking for what is making all that noise!

Well, Alot of people that has a PHEV have more trouble to get a perfect fit hitch and some had to get a more "custom" hitch to fit on their PHEV. I cannot say if Kia Canada will void the warranty for a bike rack, but since it's not recommended in the user maual, it's more for people that wants too pull a 3,500 pound tent trailer.

Good choice, I got a Black PHEV SX as-well, had it since end of January.
The mileage is great I still have half a tank left from when I picked up the car from the dealership! And managed to do a few longish trips.
The SX really has a ton of features, so much saftey/cameras loved that and the speaker system really has a nice boom.
