Homelink for Niro PHEV?

A little surprised that the Niro PHEV (EX Premium) doesnít include a Homelink garage door transmitter. On my last car I simply removed the standard rear view mirror and replaced it with an auto dimming one that included three Homelink transmitter buttons.

Since the rear view mirror on the PHEV has the UVO button among other things already there, has anyone attempted a different fix? I have always worried about someone stealing a portable transmitter from the visor and pillaging my house with it.

I found this on Amazon, but was curious to see what others are doing.

Hi, i know some one with a PHEV SX (the same that your Ex Premium) in Canada that this the same change and i worked fine! The only thinh that you loose is the UVO map gps setting button and the UVO emergency alert (like on-star) and towing request.

Thanks for the reply. Having just purchased the car Iím not ready to remove functionality; did he install the rear view mirror or the piece that fits in the sun visor?

I too love Homelink as a convenience and security factor. A couple of years ago, some bad people went thru some cars at our church during the service. They took garage door openers and insurance cards. With the insurance card they new the address attached to the opener. As you probably guessed, some of our members homes were burglarized.

Some Other Kia models come with Homelink but not current Niros. IIRC the 2020 Niro will have a Homelink option.

I got one like this for my VW Golf. "Gentex Series 8 Frameless Auto-Dimming Mirror with Homelink and Compass 50-genk85a on Amazon". https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PXH3A52...v_ov_lig_dp_it Pricey but very nice. There are less expensive ones if you don't want the compass function. Ask the seller what sort of cable / connection you will need for your model & they should be able to tell you exactly what you need.

I plan on getting one of these for my Niro but I've got to buy the car 1st!

So the only issue is that the 2019 Niro PHEV has an auto dimming mirror that has special features on it. Iím not sure I will use the features but it seems that I should at least review the features.

Do I really need the UVO buttons? If not the Gentex frameless looks great.

Quite not shure on how he did or if it was a specialist that did it!

This is a question I have as well. I've emailed Kia accessory support, but haven't heard back yet. While I doubt I'd ever need the functionality, I'd rather not lose the Uvo functionality in the current mirror. Especially since it's leased and they might frown on that when I return the car in three years.

So I ended up having a "Gentex HV5G HomeLink V - Headliner Mounted Wireless Control System with Gray Bezel" installed in the headliner above the drivers seat and left the rearview mirror alone. Can't post the Amazon URL here so just for what's in quotes.

I had it installed at a body shop so i can't provider the particulars of the installation. It works fine.

I saw those on Amazon, and figured that will likely be the way I go. At $159, it costs less than a replacement mirror as well.
