Oil leak at 146,888 miles

So you all know I ripped the undercarriage off the car a few weeks ago. Well the number one job of that piece of plastic in my eyes is to keep the oil stains off the driveway. I can tell you I have had a small oil leak from the drain plug for a while. It typically wasn't an issue, but without the undercarriage I have a nice oil stain now. Likely the drip is because I was too lazy to go by the dealer and buy a $1 crush washer. I would have paid $10 if I didn't have to drive down there. So I was only at 4000 miles on this oil change and decided to go the cheap route. Imagine that. Remove plug, put on new crush washer and fill with new oil. Almost put the half used oil back in, but I splurged.

Here is where it got tricky. Typically it's 4 quarts of oil. What drained out, without the filter being removed was a little under 3.5 quarts. Simple enough, I will just put about 3.5 quarts back in. Why don't Kia use a real metal dipstick like the old days. I have a hard time getting a true reading on this plastic dipstick. Anyone else have this issue?

Anyhow, hopefully I didn't put too much oil in. Half tempted to go buy a new oil filter and do the whole oil change over again because we all know too much oil is worse than being under the safe mark.

53,112 miles to go on my 200,000 mile test drive. And yes, I did look at the new Niros when I went to pick up my parts. The sales guys there did not bother me. They remember me from when I walked out during the buying process. I am a sales guy myself so I know how to work a deal. I went in the first time with a number in my head. Price of car, minus trade value equals my number. They took my Prius to get a trade in value. Then when they were not even close to my number, I said give me my keys back, I'm outta here. They wouldn't give my keys back so I stepped in the office and was told to get out. Lol. Anyhow the sales manager said we are trying to work with you. I said, I told your guy to give me his best price, there is no second chance. If I like the number, I am here to buy a car. He yelled at me, I yelled at him, then got my keys back, then had to find my car. As I walked out the door, he threw a number out that was where I wanted to be. I went to my brother in law's house, had a beer and went back and bought the car. So, no new car yet, but they are impressed with my current mileage.

I would love to negotiate the deal. They don't like me. I have purchased 13 vehicles in my life so far, one trailer, one zero turn mower as expensive as a car, 2 ATVs, and a tractor. The key is knowing they have wiggle room. You gotta be realistic on your trade, find out all incentives, know every car within your market, and come up with your number before you walk in the door. Also be willing to walk out the door if the number is not right for you. Don't get hung up on monthly payment. I hate when they say how much can you pay per month blah blah blah. Don't fall into extended warranties. If you don't do every recommended service, they can deny you. I typically know more about the car than the sales person when it comes time to buy. And definitely don't show emotions. Let them know you are there to buy if the deal is right. I told him give me your best deal, not second best or third best. Let them know you call the shots. I can tell you in the heat of the moment, the sales manager gave me about $1000 better deal than I had in my head. It was my actual hopeful price, not my I got a deal price. He barked that number out and I said to myself I gotta do this. When I went back in I said, you gave me a price and I know we were both heated up. If you can do it, I'm here to buy a car. If not, no worries. He did it.
Knowing every car in the market allows you to let them know that you have done your homework. It's as easy as yeah xyz dealer has the same exact car. Now he knows he needs to be extra competitive. Good luck. It's just a car, it's just a want, it's definitely not a need.
