spare tire on cheap

finally got a spare tire set from 2014 Soul. Paid $60 for the full set from craigslist. using the chart shown. Physically one i got from 2014 Soul is exactly same as what is in my son's Veloster which I paid $280 from a dealer. under floor section seems to be very much same across Kia and Hyundai so it seats flushed under the floor cover. Veloster upgraded wheels have the same 225-45-18 and very popular size for both Kia and Hyundai for midsize and down.

Be careful with the age of that spare. From a 2014 Soul, that means the tire was probably manufactured in 2013 or earlier. Those donuts should be replaced every 6-10 years regardless of use.

You can get a new Niro spare tire set from Kia for $250. Or I suppose since you already have the wheel and the tools, you only need the donut tire which is $80ish.

If you don't have the kit and want to save some money over buying from Kia, sign up for price alerts here: https://camelcamelcamel.com/Genuine-...context=search

Recently the lowest it goes is $220, which saves $30.

absolutely, and the mfg date is "1510" March of 2015. previous owner had purchased the set afterwards. I think these spares are good for 10 years since it's not expose to UV nor the element. I really needed the oem jack accessories so it works out good since they fit in the space perfectly and locked down securely.

For what it is worth (not much) anecdotally I've used a PT Cruiser donut twice after it was 15 years old. It is out in the elements, bolted under the car.

True, modern tires are much less prone to dry rot and the like. I had a spare under my 1997 Dodge Ram for at least 10 years (it actually came with the truck when I bought it in 2005) and it was perfectly fine. The rim was rusty as the PO evidently used the truck to tow a boat so the rear was in the water quite a bit but the tire was fine. It was the wrong size, but that's a different story.

Pro tip: if your spare is 2 inches taller than the other tires, drive slow and directly to the nearest tire shop, your limited slip differential will thank you.
