Will Rear cross traffic alert stop car?

Does the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) merely warn of danger & rely on drive to stop car or will it automatically stop car if driver does not? Or in other words: if driver fails to react, will car run into crossing traffic?

I doubt it, but it's hard to know for certain. Mine has gone off a few times when backing out of a space in a parking lot, but I always hit the brakes when I hear the alert. The documentation on the AEB indicates that if you hit the brakes, the AEB will refrain from imposing its own braking logic so if the RCTA has similar logic, it wouldn't have kicked in for any of the situations that I've experienced because I braked first.
