Who would be upset if I traded my Niro in early. Basically have an offer to get into a 2019 LX. Sticker price $25,130. Out the door price $20,200. That takes into account trade value and what I owe on the car which are about equal.

Really? Your current car is only worth about $2,000? It is normal to get about a $3,000 discount on a Niro without a trade in. That's ballpark what I got on my 2018 LX in January 2018 near the beginning of the model year. I'm not so sure this is a great deal, except for the dealer. As a business thing, might be worthwhile for you of course to cut out the hassle with both new car negotiation and getting a fair price for your well used car.

I don't understand the $2000 value of my car. KBB rates the trade in value at $5300. I owe $5200. So essentially I owe what it's worth so trade in is $0. The dealership offered me $8000 trade. So that gives me $2700-2800. Their sale price was like $22700, minus the $2700 puts me at $20000. Add in the doc fee and I'm back to $20200, or about $5000 under sticker. Not sure why they like to show so much as trade in and not just lower the price of the car. It all works out the same. I think it has something to do with what is reported to sites that give average sale price. If you look at kbb fair value of a new vehicle, it is almost $23000 on the low end. I really think it is to there advantage to keep the sale price of the new car high. Don't see any other benefit to them.

I appreciate your posts demonstrating the potential longevity for the Niro. I doubt that many of your dear readers will keep their Niros for 100K+. IMO you have done your "duty"! It won't upset me. Your money, your call.

x2, good to know our Niro has potential to go the distance without an issue.
Thanks for the kind words. I guess everyone should be happy I didn't say I was going back to Prius. No doubt in my mind this car will go 200,000 mile.

Yeah he offered me $8000 trade in. I know it's all a numbers game. KBB was like $5300. That doesn't take into account it needs a windshield, undercarriage damage from hitting the retread. I am probably a little high on the true cost of the new one. Might be more like $19500 out of pocket. If I bought it without a trade it would be easier to calculate, but I think I've got a pretty good deal. Sales manager jumped in right away because the new sales rep 1week in the job didn't know how to handle me. I also think my high mileage low year car will resell for them pretty good. Imagine getting into a 2 year old Niro for $8000-9000.

So I assume you have a MY '17 like me :Without the stick shaker:
I hate that there is no way to fully disable that and I have a fear of letting the car resist or "fight" me for control at the steering wheel. However, note that I use smart cruise control, as a semi-autonomous form of driving my own car. The only real downside to getting a new Niro IMO.

You said 25K list, and out the door at 20K. The simple math is 5K difference. A normal 3K discount leaves 2K for the trade in value of your (formerly) current car.

The part I may be missing is what you still owe. I've never had a car loan so I can't really wrap my head around it.
