There is a lot here regarding discharge issues with the 12v auxiliary battery, which I am experiencing either due to the Kia Connect app pinging my phone, or due to a dashcam connected to the OBD port, which is supposed to be off in collision mode when the car is parked.
What I would like to know is can I use my 1.5 amp Schumacher battery maintainer to check and/or charge the battery via the +jump post/chassis ground under the hood or do I have to connect it directly to the battery under the cargo hold?
it seems I’m always at 40% or lower. I had to get a jump once. I’m also curious as to how this battery is charged. The dealer said I have to run the ICE at least weekly. Why? I would think the 12v would get it’s charge from the traction battery. Is there an algorithm this is supposed to keep it at a certain level? My dealer is woefully ignorant as to how this vehicle operates.
