Hi ,
I have 2020 kia niro EV. I had it used since Oct 23. Everything was great until 1 week ago at 20% battery, I tried to open flap and it was stuck. I tried the suggestion of banging while pressing lock/unlock button. Spraying silicone in-between the gap. I was trying different suggestions card sliding methods etc. Nothing worked its refused to unlock. Eventually I had go straight to a dealership near me and they managed to get it open. Now driving with a sellotap tape to stop the flap locking again. They need to have it booked in and next free slot is in 3 weeks , is that normal for most EV folks? Also does anyone know now how it works and why that actuator gets stuck? Has anyone had the actuator replaced and it ok still working. I am bit concerned I may get a new one and it may happen again, but it won't be so lucky and be standed in some distant charging point unable to open that charging flap.

Any comments welcome...

Does it not have a mechanical disconnect cable you can pull from inside the frunk?

I don't think there is one on my '22 either. And it ain't a frunk. Not complaining mind you, but there isn't really lots of space for it, even if you retrofit one.

The good news is that there appears to be lots of space to work under the hood on most things there.

But NOW I'm going to take a look at that flap, and try to figure out how to jigger it open if/when needed.

I have been driving for the last four years with a loop of fishing line looped around the charging door (is that what you mean by flap). I have an appointment to have it replaced in a couple of weeks. It is scary when it is stuck. I bought a set of little plastic tools that might be able to open it if it ever got stuck again. Sixty years ago my parents had a stereo cabinet with the same latch design and same results.
