My company is to cheap to put a charging station in for us even though it’s a 35 BILLION dollar a year company.

My boss did say he’d put an electrical outlet for me to plug in.

He asked me to give him the specs (volts, Amps, circuit breaker) so he can pass it on to the electrician.

I want to give him some options so he can’t come back and say it was to expensive.

I want to give him the specs for the minimum and maximum for a 120v outlet and a 240v outlet.

Just tell him tell him 240, 40 amps. Labor to install 110/2A is about the same as 240/40A. Materials will cost slightly more. Hit him with the 240 first, get a full charge in less than 5 hrs while you slave away for him!!

I believe 240 charges in 2.5 hours
At home it takes about 7.5 hours.

Also doesn’t the Niro charge at higher than 2 amps?
He was making a point about how when an electrician has to run wires, install a breaker and an outlet, it barely matters what the electrical rating is. The labor is 90% of the cost, and barely is different regardless of the power rating. So he might as well spec the largest rating that he can.

Side note, OP that is awesome that your boss is willing to do that. Several of us at work drive EV or PHEV now, and my boss still says no dice. Thinks the electrical bill will cost too much. Despite the fact that it's, what, like $50 a month to charge a few cars? Some people are just against the idea, not necessarily the math.

Our electric bill at work is 80,000 dollars a month. They won’t even notice.
If they go with a 240v I won’t be able to use the Kia’s provided charging cord, right?

If the boss installs a charging station it will have its own cord and J-1772 connector. If all they install is a 240v outlet then you'll need to buy your own EVSE. That'll cost you about $200.

Let me see if I got this correct.
If my boss installs a 240v than I’ll have to supple the leve 2 charger?

I’m wanting to also put a Level 2 charger at home. That means I’d have to either buy two level 2 chargers or get a portable one and carry it back and forth every day.

I’m at work at least 9 hours every day, might just deal with the 120v

If you want I have a GE Level 2 charger that I do not need. Plus it's on wheels. Since I got rid of the Leaf I no longer have a need for it. It's 4 SALE!! It works great.

I meant 20A 110, but stupidly you only get 30 sec to fix a Post...SAD!!

If your boss installs an outlet you'll have to supply the charging cable (EVSE). If your boss installs a charging station (like a JuiceBox or ClipperCreek) then you won't need the EVSE.

I had a 240v outlet installed between my garage doors at home and bought a Level 2 Duosida EVSE to plug into it. The cable reaches my car whether it's plugged inside or outside. If I get a second electric car I can easily modify the outlet for two EVSEs.
