Hi, my wife has a Niro phev, the last two nights it hasn't taken a charge at all. We have tried on the supplied domestic charger and on our wall mounted unit, both units have power. She hasn't downloaded any apps or anything yet, but wondered if anybody else has had this issue and if so does anybody know a cure?

Double check that you haven't got a scheduled charging period in the system. There's a button on the left lower side of the dash with a clock face on it for scheduled charging. Make sure it's off. Otherwise, looks like it's a trip to the dealer's service department.

Unfortunately no scheduled charge planned, starts to charge then stops whether via the portable charger or the wall charger? It's booked in but looks like a reset required somewhere?

I had the same problem in januray. Suddenly it would not charge. I tried everything.
The auto dealer had to change the power connector inside the car. But they could not answer what had happened.
The problem was reported to the Kia factory.

How did you get on? Mine was with KIA last week. It had been showing a red light on the dash (usually green when charging) and wouldn't take a charge. They replaced the charge port last week, took 2 charges and then went back to show a red light again. No space in the dealer for 2 weeks but it's booked in. Really love the KIA but the charging situation is annoying me! 3rd time lucky maybe?

I guess the good old trick with most devices works here, that is to do a reset. Might be some sort of "cache" in the system that requires it. Won't be surprised if in some dealer service manual its stated that doing a hard reset (disconnecting the battery cable) is required.

Have you tried to charge at different charging locations such as charge point?

My work colleague told me that his volt is not charging on a humid day from home charging (no problem for work).

I've tried the domestic socket charger but get the same result. I think I'll have to wait for the dealer, hopefully they'll test it a bit longer before they give it back to me this time!

I read somewhere that a phev owner with similar problems found out, that in his case it was the charge cable locking mechanism inside the socket that failed. By pulling the yellow cable under the hood (see manual), he got it working again.

Sir, you are awesome. Pulling the cable has given me a green light. Hopefully it'll last!

Hi

I got 2 charges after pulling the emergency release cable and then a red again. Pulling the release gets it going again. I'll still take it to the dealer as I can't be having to pull the release cable every 3rd charge! Clearly, it's a locking mechanism problem.

It sounds like a fault, so hopefully the dealer can sort it for you.
The one I wrote about also had the problem again. But he appiled a little grease/oil to the locking mechanism which worked, at least until now - So maybe try this.

So I'm still waiting to get this in the dealer and just having to pull the emergency release to get it working every few cycles.

As mentioned it seems like the locking mechanism is the problem. My charging cover flap is never locked? Do other Niro owner's covers lock like with the petrol cap, I can open mine when the car is locked?

I've had my PHEV for two weeks and I've been charging it with the 110V trickle charger since a 240V outlet hasn't been installed yet in my garage. After about the first week the charging would simply stop before reaching a full charge. No error message anywhere, no red light. I would restart it by either reattaching the cord or using the UVO eco app. Two days ago it started failing more frequently and now the solid red light would come on after the second attempt at restarting. I've tried different outlets but there's no difference: the charging stopped within minutes.

After seeing the posts above, I tried the cable release suggestion last night and I was able to get the charging started. It failed again after a few minutes. I used the release again and firmly reattached the cable. It resumed charging and has continued overnight to a full charge without my intervention.

I have an appointment with the dealer first thing Monday.

yea, that sounds like a problem for the dealer.
We have never had in 4 months a problem charging, we have the UVO ECO app installed on our phones and have set the car to charge anytime.
now once in a while i'll see when i first get in the car after pulling the plug out the charge level will be like 98% for some reason, but i rarely ever see it at %100 on the car.

The dealer had my PHEV for two days and finally determined it was the EVSE (the cable) that was bad. I was able to get a replacement 110v cable and it's back in my garage charging. Fingers crossed.

It reminds me of the time I bought a digital audio recorder and a quality microphone. The recorded sound was terrible. I took it back and the salesperson said, "I bet it's the cable. It's always the cable." He replaced it and, voila, great sound.

I just had this happen to me after 2 months of no problems. I cant see any yellow cable under the hood or in the manual. Can you tell me what page its on in the manual.
