I often take short 10 mile trips that deplete the battery to about 75-78%. A trip to town of 24-28 miles can be done in EV mode if the battery if fully charged so I top off the charge after a short trip. Does charging the battery when it is only a quarter depleted cause any harm?

No, the PHEV has no issues with full or partial charge/discharge cycles. I top mine back up even after a trip to the store (a bit over 3 miles) or even to the grandkids (mile and a half round trip). The PHEV charges at a low rate (only 3.3 kW on a Level 2 EVSE) so it doesn't generate a lot of heat. And you can't run it down below 16%, as the ICE will fire up by then.

With the Niro EV, it's best to keep the state of charge between 20-80% for longer battery life. But it also charges are twice the current on L2 (over 7 kW), and also supports DC Fast Charging, which can throw up to 75 kW at the battery.
