The level 2’s I’ve tried so far have been a bit slower than advertised. Well, one was on pace for the advertised 2&1/2 hours, but another took almost 1&1/2 to go from 19 miles remaining to 25.

I know Tesla branded ones are out of the equation, they don’t even allow Model3’s to charge for free, but I’m wondering if it’s possible to someday get DC fast charging or 480V+ AC charging on the Niro with an appropriate adapter.

That sounds like an excessively long charging period for the PHEV on a true level two charger. What does the car manufacturer manual or brochure say is the expected time?

I think 2.5 hours is about right for the Niro PHEV. I hooked mine up to a Level 2 charger and it took 2 hours and 39 minutes to deliver 8.32kWh. According to the ChargePoint app on my phone the charger was delivering ~3.4kW during the charge cycle. That fits with the 2 hour 15 minute charge time in the owners manual.

Having said that I doubt that it's possible to connect a Level 3 or DC fast charger. Even if it were the limiting factor is the charger in the car itself. For example, Level 2 can deliver up to 19kW and the Niro is only taking 3.5 or so.

Theres no way, even with adapters to charge via DCQC or Level 3. Level 3 chargers are DC, Level 1 and 2 are AC. The onboard charge controller on the Niro is limited to 16amp at 240volt or 3300watts (3.3kw). That being said, if you were to use public charging or someones 40 or 32amp Level 2 charger, your still looking at 2.5 hours to fully charge. I just got done installing my ChargePoint Home L2 EVSE (16 amp version ), picked it up on amazon for $378 (minus J1772 charge cord, used one was $120)
