I鈥檓 not a big fan of any type of extended warranties. Never bought one for any vehicle or item. Some people will say they aren鈥檛 worth it until you need it. 馃榾
With that being said, the Niro will be a commuter vehicle. 20,000 miles a year.
I鈥檓 really not asking if I should get one or not, that would just be people鈥檚 opinions.
Kinda asking (if) i were to get one it the better deal getting it from the dealership or reputable 3rd party.

The rare exception to that thesis is getting AppleCare. Even Consumer Reports thinks that is a good deal. Most extended warranties are not good insurance and are usually a third party with a lot of hassle with a claim.

I agree with the above however I did buy an extended warranty when the Prius first came out since I was afraid there were a lot of expensive things that could go wrong. But the same can now be said for the Niro. In a few years I hope it proves to be bullet proof like the Prius. The dealer is the LAST place to buy an extended warranty. I remember my first 04 Prius the dealer wanted like $1800 or so for the Toyota Platinum warranty. I got it from a guy who works for a Toyota dealer in Ma. for $800, same Toyota warranty. Now he also has his own site selling extended warranties in addition to Toyota. So I called him and got the same Kia warranty (it's actually Fidelity here in the southeast) for $1200 that the dealer I bought the car from wanted $2400. It's a 8yr/125k warranty that covers the whole car with few exceptions and since it's a Kia warranty (through Fidelity) you can use it at any Kia dealer. If you or anybody wants Troy's contact info just let me know.

I would like his contact info if you don鈥檛 mind.
His contact info is:
Troy Dietrick
412-772-0989
Tell him you got his info from Gene Robinson and you heard about him here and also PriusChat.com because he used to give the people from PriusChat an extra discount. He's a nice guy and if he's with a customer leave your name and number and he'll get right back to you.

That number is disconnected.
Do you have a different contact number?

Extended Warranty

Hello,

I generally do not pay for extended warranties but since the Kia Niro is a very electronics oriented car I opted for the electrical extended warranty covering all electrical components on the car for the total 10 years. If the dash or head unit goes out on this I can only image what the cost would be to fix it. My Kia Sedona that is still under the 10 year warranty had a problem with an an electric component that links the acceleration pedal and transmission. $800 out of pocket because it wasn't part of the drive train.

It's a very good factory warranty so that drives down the cost of extended warranty. 100,000 miles are already covered for the lion's share of the expensive stuff. However, I did check and USAA offered me a wrapper coverage of bumper to bumper 100,000 miles for $600. The last vehicle I bought the quote was more like $2700 from USAA. a) USAA is about as reputable as you can get in a company b) the wide gap says to me they don't expect to pay out much given the very high level of factory coverage. So that could mean you might say 1) forget it because it doesn't cover that much extra or 2) Might as well get it because it's cheap.
