How reliable has your Niro Been?

There are a number of threads about catastrophic failures in their car, but without a context to how likely this is for all owners. So why not have a poll to see if having a failure is for Niro owners

Good idea, my intuition is that most people on this forum haven't had a major problem, but having said that I would expect that the proportion of vehicles with problems is probably higher here than in the general population. After all, one way people find this site is looking for a cause of or solution to a problem they've had.

I remember about a year back, there was a large number of people who purchased the 2017 Niro were having an issue with the plastic cap piece on their door handle broke and as such took out outside opening of the door. I remember there being multiple threads about how distressed people were and how they went to their dealer who didn't have any replacement parts and it took at times up to a month for the part to come in and then it needed to be colour matched to the car. Can't say I have seen many of those issues pop up in recent times. I don't know if it's just a bad batch of parts that got made and since then, as better or stronger plastic parts are now getting used the failures have dropped off, or just that dealers now carry the parts so no need to complain here.

My concern is that yes, the Niro is a new car for Kia and doesn't have 10-15 years of progressive refinements and history behind it. It's what, 3 years old, and I am sure that the 2017 cars had far more issues with them than the 2019 and going into the new 2020 year. The last thing we want is for that person who is doing the internet search to just find a forum with just complaints about reliability and be turned off. Likewise, if there is an issue, then I'd rather it be out there so it can be addressed and fixed.

And They even made a service bulletin to check them out.

For me and my 2 Niro, never got an issue! (knock on wood)

Great idea for this thread and this survey.! ;)

6 months, about 6700 miles. Absolutely nothing to report other than fantastic fuel economy. :D

I had no idea you had to have so many posts just to see the sig line! :D Anyway, my average MPG over my first 6 months is 166.8, and that includes not only the long trip I mentioned before, but several runs to my parents home (80 miles each way) and a few others that far exceed the EV range. My best tank was 342.4 MPG.

Quite reliable for me. The only problem I had was the front USB not working from the get go. Had to spend 3 hr in dealership and turned out factory didnt connect the cable properly which to me is pretty appalling in re to the quality control side.
My gas mileage is unbelievable. I sold my Nissan Murano because the gas was killing me. I have mastered the EV mode around town and I am a 93% economical driver. Love the challenge of the Niro. Yesterday I had a brief issue when the transmission would not engage? Restarted and good so far. I’ve spent $40. to drive 1400km. That’s pretty cool. But I live in a very cold area so there may be some weather related issues to deal with. A few 80 mile trips with no issues.
It's been great! I love driving it every day.

Our 2018 Niro PHEV has been flawless so far. We mostly drive it day to day in the EV mode, but have enjoyed nice performance and gas mileage while in HEV. The vehicle is more comfortable, quiet and frugal on gas than any other car we've owned. We also enjoy the equipped entertainment and tech packages too. It's the perfect size vehicle for loading up on big shopping trips to Costco.

I have had my '18 lx hev for 14 months now and have not had a single issue. So far it has been a great car!
This is the 4th Kia my family has owned in the past 5 years (2 fortes a soul and the niro) and other than a problem with my wifes current fortes radio getting stuck "initializing" every once in a while we have not had any issues.

Other than sometimes buggy CarPlay (I think related to a specific app), zero issues in 27,000 miles.

We got our touring in June 2019 we are at 9000 k. We haven't had a single issue It hasn't been too cold this winter i think the coldest at our house was -24c or -11f I did plug in the block heater twice but i don't think that was necessary. I can't think of anything bad to say about this car its better in the snow than our old focus zx5 and that car was actually pretty darn good in the snow.

So I bought a 19 EX with Premium package @ 32k miles with lemon title and I'm currently at 39k miles. I haven't had any problems but I was told there is a recall for the trunk lid striker (there are 2 metal part on the body and the trunk that are supposed to line up when closing. Supposedly there are some that don't align or close too hard and damage the paint/panel)

The 1st owner returned the car because the wifi in the vehicle wasn't working and there was a check engine light for O2 sensor. Kia took the car back and refurbished it and I haven't had any problems yet

17,000 miles and 14 months with no complaints whatsoever, 2019 HEV
Blew out the main fuse. Repaired under warranty as quick as they could.

50,000 miles.
My 2018 Niro has 34,000 miles and it just had its first problem, which turns out to be a big one(bad catalytic converter).

However, the service that I have received from the dealership has been outstanding!!! My KIA Niro is the 10th new car that I have had and KIA is currently tied with the best service that I have had. Bravo KIA!!!

Seems in Calgary that Catalytic converters don't go bad, they simply go missing. There, you have to make sure you check under your car (or mostly trucks) to see if someone has taken a blowtorch and nicked yours just for the exotic metals that are inside.

That would certainly throw a code!
