2018 Kia EX....
1) Dash information....would like a display that shows Hours running on EV and ICE (the one that shows aggressive and Normal may be this just not sure...don't think so)

2) Bluetooth with cell phone for Text Messages....I hate Android Auto...Plug it in when you get in; unplug it when you get out...a hassle. My 2014 vehicle had Bluetooth text that you could read on dash Screen (when car was at Full Stop) or have it read to you.

3) Would like Trip #1 and Trip #2 to show MPG (I Reset Trip 1 with each gas Fill Up; I never Reset Trip 2)

4) Would very much like EV to be easier to engage. Unless I want to creep from a stop...the ICE always comes on. Would seem to be a Normal acceleration from stopped position that EV has sufficient HorsePower to let you start without having to Creep/or always bringing on ICE

Would like Trip #1 and Trip #2 to show MPG (I Reset Trip 1 with each gas Fill Up; I never Reset Trip 2)
I'd like to even have a Trip #1/#2 or Trip A/B. Instead, I seem to have something that acts like "Trip A" (in that I get to choose when to reset it, or I can configure it to reset automatically), but apparently the functionality that would have been "Trip B" has been re-appropriated to automatically reset every day. Yes, it's kind of nice to see my miles and MPG for the day, but not so nice that I wanted to give up having a "Trip B" kind of odometer feature.

I can also add:"Funky headlight behavior" to the list of things I'd like changed. According to the owner's manual, the "Headlight Escort function" will leave the headlights on for up to five minutes after you shut off the ignition. But if you open and close the driver's door, then the headlights shut off after 15 seconds. Well, I'm not sure how frequently most people shut the car off at night, continue to sit in it for several minutes, and want the headlights to stay on that whole time (I think "never" might apply), but I do know that my routine is to drive into the garage, get out of the car, walk around to the back, open the hatch, start getting stuff out, and then about 15 seconds have elapsed and I'm left in a dark garage with arms full of groceries. Great Escort function! Not! I've disabled the Escort function because it was useless for my typical usage scenarios. It would be really nice if it would stay on for more than 15 seconds after I closed the door.

In addition, there doesn't seem to be any way to turn the headlights on if the ignition is off. It's not like anyone should be doing this for an extended period, due to obvious concerns about depleting the 12 V battery, but there are often situations where I want to get out of the car at night, I don't want to leave it running, and I would appreciate having the benefit of the headlights, if only for one or two minutes. For example, my mailbox is at the end of the street, and I need to use a key to unlock it. I would really like the ability to leave my headlights on for the one or two minutes it might take to find my key, insert it into the lock, and pull out the mail.

I don't know how you have your car setup, but mine sure does not act like that. I have sort of 3 driving information systems at work. The Trip A/B don't automatically reset for me (or that is the way I have it set). I have to reset them myself if I want to. I reset the TripA when I refill my gas tank. My beef is that the Trip settings doesn't turn off the timer and when you are sitting with the engine turned on in PARK. As this is a hybrid, the engine does turn itself off when not in use and set in PARK. This effects your displayed MPG and average speed shown in the trip display. I wished that the system would automatically know to put it into pause when in PARK.

I am sure there is. If you turn the headlight switch from AUTO to ON then the headlights turn on. That is the way mine works. But then again, I have a Canadian version of the car and it is likely different than the US versions as we don't get UVO or any of those things. Likewise we don't get the KIA run support web sites that list anything about our cars.

Section 4 of the owners manual has separate sections describing the "Trip Computer" for the Hybrid and for the PHEV. Both sections start off with a schematic that mentions "Trip A/B", but when they proceed to describe that in detail with pictures of the displays, the section for the Hybrid shows a screen that is titled "Trip A", but the section for the PHEV has replaced this with "Accumulated Info" (which is kind of like "Trip A", in that I can decide when to reset it) and "Drive Info" (which is documented to automatically reset four hours after the ignition is turned off). The latter seems to have replaced the "Trip B" concept.

Also, in the PHEV (USA version anyway), when the ignition is off and I turn the headlights to the full On position, I get parking lights, nothing else. The manual documents: on page 4-117 that "the ignition switch must be in the ON position to turn on the headlights".

Sounds to me like your Canadian Hybrid has a few advantages over my USA PHEV. Also - I don't think you're missing out on much by not having UVO. The idea of pressing a button on my phone and having the car automatically turn on the AC sounds cool (no pun intended), but the reality is that it takes so long for my phone to connect that in practice, I'm not likely to use it very often. If someone ever stole my car and I wound up being able to use UVO to locate it, I'm sure I'd appreciate it more than I currently do. But the rest of the time, it kind of feels like a way for Kia to harvest data in a way that feels a little creepy to me. The system knows where my car is, where it has been recently, whether I locked the doors or not, and probably a lot more that it's not sharing with me.

My CDN Niro HEV has the Drive Info too. This is flashed up on the dash dispay when you turn your engine off and it will give you the distance you have traveled and your average L/100 (MPG) for the past trip. As you have said, this is a running total for the car that if you take multple trips with a short time between, it will give you the total for all the trips. I was not sure when (or how long) it takes for that to reset and consider it a new trip.

I would like Kia to remove snowflake icon and the sound that warns me it is 39 degrees F or below outside. I am well aware it is cold outside and there may be slippery conditions. On that note, I would like Kia to make an OEM remote starter available for the 2018 Platinum Graphite Touring model.
I agree with this 100%. To add a few more quibbles:

- Allow drivers to lock the car while in the car (or while exiting the car) and the car is off
- Disable the 5 sec beep when you exit the car while it's running
- Return AC to last-used setting when car starts
- Eliminate 80% of the icons on the HUD
- Replace shifter with Prius type shifter whereby you can go from D to car off and parked simply by pressing the power button

I know this has been said elsewhere, but please add ability to take out charge cable regardless of car doors being locked or car not being fully charged for the few of us that don't need such a feature.

I dunno, I'd prefer to be in charge of whether or not the charge cable is locked rather than have some other jerk disconnect my car to use the charger himself. I think that's the reason for the lock in the first place. If you want to disconnect before it's done charging, just unlock the car. Once it's fully charged then anyone can unplug it to use it themselves. Seems like a pretty reasonable setup to me. It's definitely set up with public charging in mind.

There is a switch (near the driver's left knee) that does half of what you are asking for. When enabled, you can take out the charge cable once it's fully charged, even if the doors are still locked. For public charging, I think that's pretty close to optimal, although it might be best accompanied by a note on the dash ("feel free to unplug my car if the green bubble light on my dashboard is not lit").

on a related note, I've got to give Kia credit for thinking to put an alert on the dashboard when the charging door is left open. My standard routine in my garage is about unplugging and putting away the cable, and I invariably forget to close the charger door. If I wasn't seeing the alert, I'd be at risk for taking off the door when I back out of the garage (at worst) or driving around with it open and catching rain and dust and also looking stupid (at best).

Brake light and friction brake indicators. Presently I'm not sure of eather. Even my wife following me hasn't answered the brake light question but it seems regen braking eather doesn't light the brake lights or there is a high threshold.

I don't know if my planned stops are using friction brakes or not; nor if the brake lights have come on.

I would love to see a heat pump heating and AC system in lieu of running the IC engine for that but understand the cost and weight penalty. At least the capability to pre heat under charge would be nice.

I also wish the screen would start in the mode I left it in on shutdown.

Brake lights do come on with a certain level of regen. Physical brakes are seldom engaged in most stops (for smooth drivers) except in the last few feet when regen isn't enough. Fast stops, and panic stops to be sure!

I have triggered the panic button accidentally three times, never did it with my last three cars. I am learning to live with the jingle playing over the radio when I turn the car off. I still have some trouble finding the sweet spot to open the tailgate without getting my fingers dirty.

These are small potatoes as problems go, and I am heartened that most of the issues you mentioned from previous years have been dealt with in my 2019.

I was triggering mine several times a week. Just got a key fob protector a few days ago, and am hoping that will cut down on the problem. See https://www.kianiroforum.com/forum/9-kia-niro-general-discussion/7295-key-fob-protector.html

Went to dealer & took 1st look at Niro. My dubious wife was quite surprised at how nice the EX Premium is, interested in purchase with sunroof. The timing is not right yet for us to start dealing but me thinks there may be a PHEV EXP in our future. Mean while I hope the 0% interest is around in April or that there is a really good lease deal offered.

As to what I thought was missing - I'm fairly spoiled with a Subaru Ltd and Golf Wolfsburg both with a few aftermarket improvements. At a $35k+ price I think the EX should have:
- Homelink should be standard with Auto-dimming mirror (AD mirror is standard, but not HL).
- Pop open hatch either using Key FOB or waving foot under bumper.
- LED flood lights in hatch lid for good, bright illumination in hatch and on ground outside (this is quite rare & I have had to do that as an aftermarket project on my last 4 hatchbacks). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PBPI68/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not quite figured out why one would want to have the hatch open with the keyfob. now i did as why there is a section on the keyfob for the hatch that actually does absoluetly nothing. The button is there but doesn't link to anything. I of like the fact that just having the key in my pocket, I can keep the car doors locked and just press the button on the hatch lift handle and it opens anyway, and when i close it, the hatch is locked. Why would i even want to take the keys or fob out of my pocket at all. the same really holds true for the front doors in i don't need the key just open the door.

Self opening hatches are novel but if it was a choice between having it and 4 extra MPG, I would take the better fuel economy hands down, and i take it that was what Kia did.

Beware when you’re negotiating. When I bought my Niro, the salesman used all these rebates and discounts from Kia to get me to my asking price, which was great, but then when I told him I wanted the 0% financing he said it was the discounts OR the 0% financing. I guess I should have done the “walk out the door” maneuver to see if he would have budged but I knew I could get financing through my credit union.

I have gotten used to it, but I don’t like the cloth inserts in the leather seats in my EX. I guess I’m used to the leather seats in my other cars. I feel the cloth gives too much.

Why? Cost cutting? Weird. Give me all cloth or all leather.
