Kia Niro PHEV has two 12v batteries. Why?

There's one under the hood and one in the trunk compartment. I can find no info on this. I'm hoping to install a trailer harness (already have the hitch installed) and wondering if I can hook up to the battery in the trunk.
Thanks!

So that others can answer your question, what model, year and spec is your car?

There won't be 2 -12V batteries. The PHEV has a 12V in the cargo area and I believe the BEV has the 12V under the hood. Neither 1 will have both.

As mentioned, there's only one 12v battery. What you might see under the hood is 12v connectors to potentially jump start the car if the battery goes flat. But those connectors are wired to the battery in the rear compartment.

There is a 12V positive (+) terminal under the hood of the PHEV for ease of jump starting, but it is not the 12V battery.

Here is a shot of the rear 12 volt battery location on a 2021 PHEV for example
