Good news for those who have had their Kia or Hyundai stolen or damaged due to the vulnerability of the ignition key cylinder. Kia settled this on May 17, 2023 according to this report. No word yet on how to access the reimbursement fund.

My 2017 Niro hybrid has been victimized twice by this trend. Although the car was not driven away due to lack of competence by the perpetrators of the attempted theft, the damage to fix the vehicle was significant as both the steering column cover and the ignition key cylinder had to be replaced. Each attempted theft resulted in more $1k in insurance claims and $250 in deductible costs plus rental vehicle costs due to a shortage in the parts to repair the vehicle causing delays in vehicle repair. Please respond with any news updates on how to access the reimbursement funds.
