I have heard an occasional grumble from the brakes when either stopping or taking off. I assume it's just a vibration in the pads or calipers as the car comes to a stop or perhaps the pads don't retract quickly enough on startup and so there is some grinding. Doesn't happen all the time for me.HI does anybody hear hearing and Klank or Cracking noise whenever you go on a full stop and go again. its like metal noise, like the break pads hitting the rotors. thank you
The sound I've noticed is definitely not a relay opening or closing, it's more of a groan. I'd say it lasts around a second or so when just starting to roll. In fact the more I think about it I think it's most common when starting off slowly. If I release the brake gradually, like in a parking lot where I need to creep forward or backward, it feels like the car starts to apply power before the brakes are released which causes the noise. It could also be something in the rear suspension that either loads or unloads as the car starts to move with the brakes still engaged. It might be the relay closing and opening if the sound seems "internal" to the car.
Your brake pedal doesn't just push on the brakes, it also turns on/off the brake lights and turns on/off the regen feature of the hybrid system. Relays would control that.

It makes sense the car would start to apply power as the brakes are being release to prevent it rolling. I'm not particularly concerned about the noise, it's just something I've noticed sometimes.
It's not just when first starting out for me. I heard it a couple of times on my way to work today, always at low speeds. If I'm very gradually slowing to a stop I sometime heard a groan just as the cars rolls to a halt. Same thing when starting out at idle, like in a parking lot. I think it might be a resonance caused by very low brake pedal pressure. There's very little force on the pads and maybe at low speeds they or the caliper bracket can vibrate or shudder under those conditions. Again, I don't think it's a big deal or indicative of a problem, it's just a weird quirk.OK, so the sound is external. Here's what I have noticed about my Niros brakes. When the Niro sits for a short time, like overnight or in the parking lot at work, and there is a lot of moisture in the air (rain or heavy humidity) I get a noise that sounds like a grinding for a second when I start moving. I always assumed that it was surface rust being cleaned off the rotors by the disc brake pads. It only happens in wet conditions, thats why I figured it was rust.
Does yours act like that or is it something different?
Never heard that on any car I've ever owned (and I'm really glad I haven't had the experience). FWIW, I do creep ahead a few inches every day when I park in my garage. Car always wants to stop about a foot short of my target position, and then creep the remainder of the way.https://youtu.be/GmFrQGkTF2c
the exact noise I alwais have had on my cars for the last 10 years
if you have the same I would no worry
on the niro:

EXACT same situation here! The dealer master tech told me that when it is wet/damp/moist that this noise is common. It happens to me EXACTLY as you described, when first starting out after sitting overnight, and in wet/damp conditions, but NEVER at any other time.............. also to the original poster,,,,,,,,,,, at slow moving speeds your REGEN braking should be doing most if not all of the braking with NO pad/rotor use.OK, so the sound is external. Yes sir thats whjat i was thinking too, the Hill Assist. The best thing i can describe it is that when you have a big piece of magnet and you let it go to stick with a metal, its most close to that sound. I am sorry I think thats the best i can describe it.The sound I've noticed is definitely not a relay opening or closing, it's more of a groan. It is on for me until about 2 mph.isn't the regen off below 10km/h? the eco needle doesn't go down in a ramp taken below that speed I assumed below 10km/h it is full pad+disk brake (I think I read it somewhere, and it has its logic )
What can I say? I live in a hot dry climate, but it's been cold and rainy here for the past week and I've been out and about in the rain. Haven't heard anything remotely similar to the "didgeridoo" kinds of sounds that nounounounou posted. I'm glad I haven't had that experience, and somewhat sorry for those of you who have. I'm accustomed to brakes making a lot of strange noises under different conditions, but that one's outside any experience I've ever had, including a lot of years driving other kinds of cars in Maine, Vermont, and also points south.
