New 2019 EX plug-in owner. Was a Prius owner for 13years and one of those was a plug-in.
I see posts here about mileage and just wanted to offer up some mileage managing strategies for anyone who is considering or may be new to the plug-in vehicle world.
The Niro is pretty weak from a dead stop if operating in hybrid mode. I try and always use electric only off the line and then switch to hybrid mode around 30mph or so. Takes some practice to remember but helps the overall experience alot. This technique combined with the coasting driving style (a must for hybrids with regenerative braking) and I am getting a combined average of 60mpg on my daily commute of 150miles round trip.
This means that the 558 combined range distance when i bought the car has now been extended to 583 miles combined range just by practicing this driving style.
the hybrid system on the Niro is actually pretty good overall and the regen technology has come a long way from when i purchased my 2012 plug-in prius. You can now recoup or at least maintain most of the electricity used which helps extend your range overall.
Just loving the car and wanting to throw in my two cents on some techniques to get the most out of the driving experience.
If any KIA or Niro developers are reading this, It would be AWESOME if there was a default feature to switch to electric only at every stop and then automatically kick on the engine at 30mph. This would remove the humans needing to remember issue and maximize this great little car!
