You have to rest the regen every time you start the car just like turning of lane assist - both very irritating. I can't make sense of your last sentence.
Your question makes it sound like you must use the wheel paddles or turn something on every time to get hybrid regen braking…

The car does regen braking as soon as you touch the brake pedal, then adds friction braking the more you press. I.e. you don’t need to use the wheel paddles at all if you don’t want to, (they just make it more efficient or fun to drive, kind of like using a manual transmission for engine braking control).

Good luck with the dash problem (recall software update?) and the alignment (maybe you hit a pothole or curb hard? else it’s just wear and tear).
That doesn't sound proper, do you mean re-gen braking or coasting? I owned a hybrid Prius before and you could hear the re-gen activate when coasting or braking, it was always active no matter what. I have a new 2023 Niro EV, same deal, you can hear and feel the re-regenerative brake kicking in when you let off the accelerator, it's like a slow tug or driving into the wind against the vehicle. The settings just edit the sensitivity, but it's always active. You can also see it on the tachometer display where the charge bar shoots up into the positive + sector. Although mine is an EV, I would guess a hybrid would be the same as this technology has been out for a long time. The resetting might have to do with whether or not you're using your actual user profile and the setting is more likely to increase the sensitivity of response, but it's probably always active.

You have to turn on/off lane assist every time? I don't have to in the 2023' Niro EV. I turned lane assist off and thankfully it stays off. Do you have a user profile at startup? I found my settings remain if I save them while in my user profile, but may not if I don't confirm selection. On the EV regen braking is always active no matter what, you can feel it drag when you let off the accelerator as it never really coasts freely. Is it different for the HEV? On my old hybrid Prius it was automatically engaged when braking, but not coasting.
