Last night I bought a 2018 Niro Hybrid. Beautiful condition. Before buying I checked what consumer reports showed about the car as I have no experience with it. One of the things mentioned was that the car was quiet inside while driving down the highway and that it got really good gas mileage. First thing that happened after I pulled out of the dealership and got onto the freeway was a phonecall. While we were on a freshly paved on-ramp the car was quiet, then we hit the concrete where all the snow-tires chew up the surface and phonecall became impossible to hear. The whole two hour ride became the same, patches of peace and calm intermixed with horrible racket. Other than the road noise, the car was a real joy to drive. Nice and smooth ride with an increase in vibration while over the noisy areas, alignment seemed perfect, good acceleration, etc...
Really like the car, but I do need to be able to talk on the phone.
Is this a case of vibration dampeners in the chassis gone bad or sound deadening material needed to be added? Or as I've seen elsewhere, "buy ear-plugs"?
