So… I have a 2019 Kia Niro touring hybrid with very low mileage. This morning, for the first time, neither of my fobs would work I called several dealerships, and one of them helped me use the manual key. I was able to open the door. Pressing my fob against the start button did not start the car. The dealership stated that I would need to have the car towed in. I went home and watched a couple of Kia videos and saw that I should able to reset the 12 V (which none of the dealerships mentioned ) I went back to the car and that worked The car is now running and the fobs are working. I’m just a little nervous when I press on the accelerator , it does not show anything being used. The gas mileage after driving around 30 minutes showed 3 miles per gallon. Yikes!! Can anyone share with me what has happened here? I’ve searched and searched and made phone calls and no one seems to be able to help me. The battery gauge looked full

It sounds like your 12v. battery went dead for some reason. Double check the lights or trunk latch wasn't left open/on by accident or nothing that could cause the 12v. battery to drain. Drive it around for a little bit and hopefully things will return to normal. Drive it for at least an hour to make sure. See how things are tomorrow.

Thank you. Would the gauge still be showing a full charge if the 12 V was dead?

Yes, that is quite possible. The gauge you see is the traction (high voltage) battery.
The 12V battery is a separate unit though it is attached to the traction battery. You will only see a reading from it if you have a voltmeter of some kind attached to say the 12V port by the front of the center console.

Put new batteries in the FOBs. I have a 2019 hybrid, and if you have a dashcam and or a radar detector, they will drain the 12v battery. The method is to push the battery reset.
I have an HEV with dashcam and it does not drain the battery because I plug the dashcam into the 12V socket and that shuts down shortly after shutting car off.

I had the same on our 2019 PHEV and they jump started the 12v battery (from the front - there are jumping ports under the front hood). Dealer never found a problem and it hasn’t happend since. I believe I over discharged the 12v sitting in a parking lot taking calls for an extended period with the engine off - I haven’t done that since either 😁

Yes, you likely discharged the 12V as you say and I suggest you know where you are going to purchase a new 12V battery so you are prepared the next time it happens.
It is not a question of "if" it will happen again but rather "when" and how often.
You have 4 years from that battery and based on other reports in this forum, your battery has done well.

My 2017 ex 12 volt battery is still going strong.
You have the hybrid, which doesn't have a lead acid battery. Your 12v battery should last the life of the car.
