The second time in the last few months I get a notification that the climate has been started on my 2020 ENiro, only I haven't paid for the [horrid useless] app and tolerate the lack of remote climate start
So I didn't start the climate, and it has in fact been started. About 8 am this morning, last time it was 7 ish because I had to take out the trash and it was sitting there with the heat on.
Might have been plugged in both times
Ideas?
anyone seen this before?

Are you the original owner? I noticed when I traded my Niro in I could still access the car via the app or the web page for months after. I just deleted the car from my "garage" so if something happened to the car they couldn't come back and accuse me of doing something.

Yes bought new almost 2 years ago
I recommend contacting Kia Connect and request a log of commands sent to your car over some period incl. info on where they originated. I assure you that for legal reasons among others, they do keep long-term API logs. Whether they'll even admit it, let alone provide you detailed info is another matter. Include at least a couple time/dates of the unexpected remote start events, being sure to express your (I assume) strong concerns there is ongoing unauthorized access. More likely they'll only offer to reset your authorization/credentials and re-activate.

The only other vector I know of is another key fob associated with your car. Unless the EVs are different there's a maximum of two that can be associated at any one time. If you can account for two working fobs then Kia Connect is the only other method I know of to cause a remote start. Don't forget remote start and stop is possible via the telematics.

This situation is actually the one major beef I have with my first Kia: unconditionally enabled telematics, particularly two way. It's straight up unacceptable an owner, short of disconnecting the 12V battery or removing a HW (cell radio) module from the infotainment system, has no way to disable it. What you don't fully control, you don't "own." If this happened to me, I'd be on it tomorrow, doing whatever it takes to ensure it didn't happen again. Yep it's a hot button. It's also possible I have some manner of involvement and interest in information security.

The fob does not control remote climate, only the app
With as useless as all the app related stuff is, I have little confidence that Kia would even know what I am talking about.
I am not that concerned with theft etc, as I do not think the app will let you drive the car without a key

You can use the key fob to start the car: press the lock button, then hold the button on the side (with the circular arrow and the word "Hold") for 4 seconds.
He meant that the fob cannot alter the HVAC settings in the car like you can with the app. Yes, you can remote start, but the HVAC has to be set before hand, and there's no way to trigger the seat and wheel heaters, nor the rear window defroster.

So, in doing some research, I believe I have the answer. I found a posting for a different Kia EV, it mentioned that getting the scheduled climate start to work was difficult/impossible....hmm
It only works if the car is plugged in, and hasn't reached its charge limit,IOW is actively charging
wow that is useless.
It seems that 2 years ago I set up a climate schedule on the dash and it literally never has worked, and I forgot about it,...until this month

Last winter I set the max charge to 80 percent and left the car plugged in so I could use the still active EVO app without drawing down the battery. Basically it was always charged so that would never have started climate with the above stupid rules
This year I have not been leaving it plugged in since I no longer have the app. I also have let the charge get down to below 30 percent a few times before plugging in
Ta Da, the car is still charging at 7 am, plugged in, and the long forgotten scheduled climate start worked for the first time ever

I like this car fine, but the software, ugh, really not well done

The OP only said that the car was on, and didn't know how that could happen without the app. There was no mention of adjusting the climate settings, turning on seat heaters, etc.

With heated /ventilated seats-heated steering wheel I am not going to waste energy on heating/ cooling the car when I'm not in it. Seems that defeats the purpose of having an energy efficient vehicle.

Realize others have a much different perspective.
