I have a 2018 Niro PHEV and am wondering what the rear hatch is made of? I noticed that magnets do not stick to it, so I am guessing its aluminium which seems to make sense for weight reduction. Just curious if anyone knows for sure?
Hood and hatch are supposed to be aluminum. Non-structural. Pretty common now for many models, not just hybrids.mNot as common where strength/crash protection is required, like doors and frame.
Correct @yticolev.
For weight reduction, hood and hatch are aluminum. Most structural components are high tensile steel, also for weight reduction and why they removed motorized hatch lift and pano roof.
