Sorry for your problem. I would ask for your payments to be put on hold on your car while you wait... Your paying for a car that is not useable!

The Sould is no where comparable to the Kia Niro EV.

Know a person that had a volt that was un-usable for months, and he was asked for an extension to his warranty. They couldn't do that but they paid his payments while the car was unavailable... Which he took immediately!

They aren’t arriving until ”Spring” in Canada so I have no idea when mine will be here but I really hope they’ve figured it out and fixed the issue before I have it.

Seems like it could be software related given the amount of ppl commenting on the Power ON/OFF or Battery Pre-heating options potentially being factors affecting this.

Nice to see people have figured out workarounds.

Print out this topic and hand a copy to the dealer. Too many people are reporting this issue for it to be a problem with just one or two vehicles. It sounds like a design issue that Kia needs to address, or perhaps a batch of bad parts. Either way, they should issue a service bulletin when they know what the problem is.

Sorry here is an update on my car as the original poster.

My car is still at the dealership. It has been over 2 months now (since Dec 8) and they have not been able to fix the problem. They have given me a Kia Soul as a loaner the entire time. They are awaiting a back ordered ICCU and are going to replace that to see if that fixes the issue.

My case has been escalated and I have not been offered a replacement car yet but they did offer to repurchase the car, or I could wait for the car to be repaired (with no ETA) and a cash payment of my down payment plus car payments I have paid on a car I don't have.
Any updates? You got to get out of this car. Sell it back and get another.

Your dealership is stalling. You have them. Did they show you what the ICCU is? You certainly don't want some hack mechanic from you "stealership" changing the ICCU on your new Niro. It's the entire top of your "engine" (if you want to call it that) after you remove the frunk.

Here's your ICCU. Good luck on that.

Sorry for a late update, but here it is. The dealer kept my car for about 2 months basically troubleshooting the problem. They had to wait for the ICCU to be shipped in and they replaced that and it seems to have fixed the problem. They gave it back to me and its been running fine ever since then with no issues.

Thanks for the update. The dealer decided mine was the ICCU ( after replacing the three coolant pumps) also, in April, and expects the part July 12th. I am glad to hear yours has been running fine.

I have been having this issue as well. I was out in town and tried 3 chargers, all of which had “charging unsuccessful” results. Had it towed to the dealer since it had no charge left. Service department said it charged fine for them and couldn’t find anything wrong. Brought it home today and plugged it in to try charging. Once again, “charging unsuccessful“.

I called support and they said to take it to the dealer. Called the dealership and the service department said, “it charged fine for us”. I persisted because I know something is going on. She told me to bring it in with my charger. I told her it’s not the charger but she said there is nothing I can do but bring the car in. I am beyond frustrated and I’ve only had this car two weeks. My first Kia, too.

They've got to see it in action so bringing your charger in is a good starting point.

Well, took my car back in with the charger. Guess what. It’s not a charger problem. SMH.

They have no idea what’s wrong with it. I told them to check the ICCU and the guy said that’s only a problem in the EV6 and not the Niros. They also have escalated my case to Kia corporate.

how did you get them to offer you a different car? The guy from the service department said that an approval like that would have to come from the corporate office.

suggestions on next steps? We do have a 30-day lemon law.

Same issue. Kia Niro EV with Level 2 charging. Charging unsuccessful, disconnect, reconnect, repeat if necessary until charging started. I have experienced it with different chargers, car unlocked/unlocked, usually car turned off. Outside temperature usually cool to cold, car temperature varied. I have not talked with the dealership yet but will check with them to see if they have heard of the problem and know of a solution. Please keep this thread updated and I will also post if I hear anything. Thanks.
The dealer replaced the ICCU and it has been charging level 2 successfully several times now. I also checked level 3 charging was still working.

I had the ICCU replace on mine too. Got the car back 2 weeks ago. Level 2 charging has been working so far!
So thankful for this forum! Probably wouldn’t have found the issue and had it solved as quickly without it. Ended up taking ~45 days, but I know it could’ve been worse. Thanks for your help!

Glad it is working so far. Make sure level 3 charging is still working; I checked mine and it is okay, but you never know.

wow just seeing this thread. I live in an area where we do see some very cold temps for much of the year, but I got my new Niro in the Spring after temperatures had moderated. So I am now a bit nervous I may see this issue once we get some colder temps around here.

Regarding the tech that said "that's only a problem on the EV6!" --- that guy should realize that the Niro and the EV6 share a TON of tech, parts, features and...you guessed it -- issues.

There's really not a lot in common between the two cars. Completely different motors/batteries/electronics.

Hi. I have had my kia niro ev for about 2 months. Charging has been frustrating the whole time, but eventually couldn't get it to charge. I have taken it to the dealership, & it has been there for almost 2 weeks. I have been without a rental & beyond frustrated. They are promising me a rental tomorrow.( fortunately I have had access to my daughters car, but that is beside the point) They have told me 2 different things so far-that it could be the charging port itself & at another point stated it was the chip/board. I am seeing here the ICCU is a possible cause- not sure what that is? They have supposedly ordered parts, but state they have to wait for the repair to be approved 'by higher up' before the repairs can be done. It's frustrating to me that they must have some awareness of this issue, but are delaying fixing it. Does anyone have contact info for 'Kia Headquarters', so I can make inquiries?

What should I be asking them when I go in to talk to them? What parts should I be asking for them to check/replace so that this issue will in fact be resolved? What is reasonable for me to be asking for- others on here have had them compensate them for the monthly payment etc..
I'm in california & unfortunately will have to educate myself on 'lemon laws' - I hope it doesn't get to this, as I really enjoyed driving my Niro!
I am at a loss- in more ways than 1. Any advice would be helpful

Going through this at the moment. Is there any way to contact the corporate office to get them to give approval?

I had the same issue after owning my 2023 Niro EV for less than 4 months--level 1 and level 2 charging stopped working--extremely frustrating--though level 3 continued to work. Although the dealer here (Oregon) said they'd just fixed another 2023 Niro EV with the same problem, it took well over a month before the issue was properly diagnosed, the ICCU was "approved" and shipped, and the car was completely fixed. Because it was taking so long, I escalated the issue by first talking to the service manager at the dealership, and then talking to Kia America. I mentioned to both the dealership and Kia America that I was concerned I'd purchased a lemon, and that really triggered them into action...so I recommend others with the same problem do the same thing. Fortunately, the new ICCU is working well, I haven't (yet) had any other issues with the car, and I've been enjoying the car ever since.

They have got to have enough data at this point to identify a bad batch of ICCUs don't they? And then notify people with vehicles that have ICCUs from that batch, have them go in and get it replaced pro-actively. Perhaps under a TSB. You would expect there is a threshold where if they exceed some percentage of Niro EVs affected then they issue a TSB. Maybe.

Just had an issue with our home charger (Chargepoint home) that works fine for our other EV. I plugged our new 2023 Niro Ev in, it said "started charging then proceeded with the usual clunking and splashing sounds and then stopped with red light and Charging failed voice message. Tried three times with same result. looking at home power monitor I see that it seems to be trying to warm up the pack using some type of a heater and not even turning the charging current. Called Chargepoint they had me plug and unplug it four times and it started charging. I am at loss- either that just cleaned some junk off a brand new car's connector or it was coincidental and the repeated attempts made something warm enough to allow charging. The guy did say it resets something. House power during these attemps looked like this

my story might help. I have a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and my home charger was a 40 amp charger and the car would not charge on it. kept stopping and shutting off. So I decreased the charge amps to 32 and have had no issue since. Could the Kia niro be the same issue and maybe reducing to 32 amps might work? Just a thought

Mine is at the dealer fails to charge at the 100% rate , says “charging failed” and when I had ChargePoint on the phone we tried the 5x plug and unplug , no luck and then it failed while standing there with three red bars at the plug flash during the message “charging failed” ChargePoint sent another charger still same issue. Suspecting ICCU will see later what’s up , dealer is securing me a rental due to an opening a case file and waiting on a response from Kia… paying on a car I can’t use I suppose and gas for a rental…will be tracking these expenses and days for a future conversation ….just hope it gets fixed .
