Battery Drain cause

I had a headlight go out a couple of days ago while traveling. Since then, I have had to use the 12v reset button many times. I’m picking up the replacement bulb today. Would a dead headlight cause a battery drain? Cause or coincidence?

tl;dr this happened to me about a week ago, and replacing the headlamp soled the problem.

I have a 2022 Niro Hybrid, and the headlight check warning came on while driving; the next morning it was totally dead. Discovered the 12V reset button (WOW the manual could do a better job pointing the reader to that before jump start) and got the vehicle started. Expected a small child had left a light on, but I checked each one and that was not the case. Drove it around to charge the battery - but was dead again the next day.

My neighbor who was going to help me jump it said that modern cars will sometimes disconnect the battery if they sense it will run out, and the button maybe just reconnects it? But we don't know for sure; the manual did not explain it. That said, the button is great to have, a sort of self-jump!

After needing the button every day or two, I had time to replace the headlamp and that seems to have solved the problem (it's been about a week, which would have been 3-6 button uses). It's weird to me that these two things are interconnected, and that it doesn't seem to be very well known issue if they are.

The same thing happened to me. You are the first that experienced the same. My headlight burns out and then my battery is dead the next day....restart with button, no problem. Change headlight, no more problems. 7 months later the other front headlight goes out. Next day, dead battery, used restart, changed light, all fixed.

Same year, same car. 2022 Hybrid Nero.

Last night my warning came on the dash to replace the headlight. This morning the battery is completely dead. A jump start won’t charge the vehicle. 2022 Kia Niro Hybrid. The only thing I can think of is the headlight causing this issue, just like your post suspected. Doors were locked and lights were off inside the vehicle.

Did replacing the headlight solve the problem? I’ll have to look for the 12v reset button.

Short answer, yes. It could be either. Longer answer, it's plausible that the bulb failing has caused some sub-system to latch in an on-state resulting in the excessive battery drain. Let us know if replacing the bulb solves you issue. Troubleshooting battery drain in modern cars is a nightmare as it can take tens of minutes for the car to finally settle down into it's "off" state.

Welcome to the forum BTW, I assume from you post you have the HEV version, is it new or have you had it for a while? I haven't had any lights go out on my '18 PHEV yet so I haven't had to deal with this yet fortunately.
