I hate to say it but I sorta blame Massachusetts. While Kia/Hyundai and Subaru are taking a more literal interpretation of the law in question, it’s a not unreasonable interpretation.

basically my understanding is that if you have telematics, you have to let 3rd parties in on the game, too, and there’s no reasonable way to do this for technical reasons above my pay grade. I want to say that NHTSA essentially agrees with this position.

i think that Mass could revise the law to preserve its intent but preclude Kia’s hardline interpretation.

I understand Kia is playing hardball here, but at the same time, they’re not in the business of alienating potential customers and losing revenue streams. Surely Mass could get together with them and Subaru and figure something out.

I wouldn’t hold my breath tho.It‘s been like this for a long time now.

I will say you’re not missing much. I don’t find Kia Connect that useful.
