Pull codes without scan tool?

My CEL is on today (car is a week old) - is there a method for getting codes without a scan tool? I'm accustomed to there being a procedure, often difficult to execute, whereby you can get the codes to display one way or another. I have searched and, to my surprise, I haven't found anything for the Niro yet. Does anyone know of a way to get the codes without a scan tool?

Edit: I do have an OBD II adapter of some sort that I have used in the past for monitoring transmission fluid temperature etc., so presumably I can use that. Is there a preferred app for using with the Niro PHEV?

Thanks

I got my OBDII scanner and software working, which was bit of a pain because it isn't compatible with Apple devices so I had to dig up / revive an old Android device.

(I still wish there were a way to get codes from the car itself - it's surprising there isn't.)

I got OBD-II:
U1341

ECU:
U1341(00)
Archive (inactive)

Quick googling returns result like this:
U1341 code possible causes
Faulty Function Read Vehicle Speed Function

But other references suggest different issues. I have come across other recent Niro PHEV owners who have encountered this code, but no obvious resolution.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks for that. I did come across that thread when I was searching, and it sounds like at least a few people have had that code. As I read it, the "fix" was to improve the grounding connection (for the brake control module, I think - it wasn't totally clear.) It's not clear if the fix actually addressed the problem or if it was the best idea they had.

I have heard elsewhere that "kia 12v batteries are junk and can cause spurious codes" - but nothing more specific than that.

I'll make a note of the code for the future, and ignore it unless/until it comes back.

A failing 12v battery can trigger random trouble codes. But you don't mention the year or model of Niro you have, so it's tough to say if it might be failing yet. IN general they seem to start failing after 2-3 years. Mine was fine when I traded it at 2 years and 3 months, but maybe I got lucky. :)
2022, 600 miles, I have owned it for about 10 days.

Wow. 2-3 years out of the 12v battery - that's disappointing.
