Sizing Down Winter Tires/Wheels

Looking to purchase a winter tires/wheels set for my '23 Niro EV Wind and was hoping to be able to size down to 16" wheels as recommended by Tire Rack. I asked Tire Rack support and they said it will be fine, but I have read various posts that there may be some clearance issues with the rear calipers and that 16" wheel won't clear it. Does anyone have anything definitive on this or know with 100% certainty that 16" wheels won't work? Thanks!

I have seen confirmation in other threads that 16" wheels definitely won't fit on the 2022 Niro EV, but I haven't seen anything definitive on the 2023+ Niro EV, other than people saying it might not or probably won't fit. Tire Rack seems to think its not an issue so I may go forward and give it a shot as long as I get assurance from them that I can return if its an issue.

If anyone has found any threads that say for certain it won't work with the 2023, I would love to read them.

I tried to get a closer look and take some photos but it was challenging. I think this is the best one that shows the clearance.

It would be as simple as Tire rack getting a 16" wheel (which should be quite common) and seeing if it fits with enough clearance and then go from there.
As for the sizing of the tire, a 205 65 16 would be a closer match in circumference but that tire size is NA (I believe).
Otherwise, the 205 60 16 is the correct tire as @tsunamisalad mentions - it is used on the other Niros.

I don't think their recommendation is as vetted as one would hope. They are still trying to sell me 16s when it is easily proved that they just won't fit. And the wheels they sell for the 17s still have the 42 offset which will cause them to stick out from the fenders. My guess is they tested on a HEV or PHEV and not an EV specifically.

Think I will go your route and buy from road ready wheels.

Appreciate the info. I already pulled the trigger and bought these from Road Ready Wheels that @J1772X2 is using. Much closer to the oem specs.

My only recommendation would have been to get 7" width as that is OEM sizing and putting a 215 onto a 6.5 inch rim is a bit of a stretch.

BTW, that pic is of a rear wheel?
Front caliper clearance is the problem area but I assume you have enough clearance or they would have said something to you.
I am getting 17" rims for my daughter's Seltos (same specs) and I will try 1 of those on the front of my EV before they are installed on her vehicle.
They have to fit but it will be tighter than the alloy.

Just to confirm: those are 6.5 x17 with offset of 42?
Caliper clearance looks good and I don't see the tire sticking out past the fender.
I don't see a pic of the rim face which should show a little ballooning in the sidewall (6.5) but again, that is not a problem. They are installed and look good.
Now I can confidently look for some 17" myself and will not be concerned with 42 offset.

These are 50 offset as per my other thread (17x6.5 rims, 67.1 CB, 114.3x5 bolt pattern, 50mm offset. (I used 104-0024 from Road Ready wheels) . The wheel is rear here as I was mainly reading about that being an issue. This was my initial try. I then had the tech at the shop try both front and rear before proceeding.
