You say the button and it’s travel, meaning the way the button feels when using it?

 

Yes, the button is not moving in the same was as it did when it worked. That's why I believe it's an issue with the button itself and not a fuse, etc.

 

I wonder if some debris may be wedging it down. Guess I would try pressing repeatedly to break the jam. Maybe carefully probe around the button with a penknife blade. Don't really know the procedure for removing the button. Hope you get it loose.

I don't think there's any debris and the whole area is clean. I've pressed it repeatedly, and tried putting more pressure on the ends vs the middle but nothing changed.

 

I'd rather break the button and be able to use cruise control than pay a dealer, or replace the entire button thing.

Sounds like the button might be physically worn or stuck. If it’s on the steering wheel, many cruise control switches are part of a replaceable switch assembly. Usually, you’ll need to remove the airbag first (disconnect the battery and wait ~15 mins for safety), then remove the screws holding the switch.

Be gentle—don’t pry hard or you might crack the trim. If it's a column stalk, it may require removing the steering column cover.
